Configuring Real-Time Application Output

On the Configure real-time application output Control Panel page, you can choose whether to display real-time application output in one or more RTX64 Console windows and configure how that output is displayed. You can also control and configure output logging.

Opening this Page in RTX64 Control Panel

To open this page in the Control Panel:

  1. In the Start menu, navigate to RTX64 4.5 Runtime and click RTX64 Control Panel.
  2. Click Configure the RTSS Subsystem > Configure Real-Time Application Output.

Displaying Real-Time Process Output in Console Windows

To display real-time process output in one or more console windows, select Display real-time process output in console windows. This is the default behavior. Clear selection of the check box to prevent output from being displayed in console windows.

NOTE: The options to configure how real-time output should be displayed are grayed-out when this setting is not selected.

Configuring the Display of Real-Time Process Output

When Display real-time process output in console windows is selected (see above), you can configure how real-time application output should be displayed in console windows.

Setting Description Action

Configure how real-time process output should be displayed

Determines whether real-time process output should be displayed in one or more console windows.

Choose an option:

  • Display output for all real-time processes in a single console window

When this option is selected, the single console closes when the Subsystem stops.

  • Display a separate console window for each real-time process (default).

NOTE: This option uses more memory and could limit the number of real-time applications you can run if they all print data to the console.

When this option is selected, you can choose whether to close console windows automatically when its corresponding real-time process terminates or have them remain open until the user closes them (default). When Close console windows automatically is selected, console output generated by a real-time process shortly before it terminates may not to be displayed, as its corresponding console has already automatically closed.

Network Abstraction Layer (NAL) and TCP/IP Stack output appears in a single system console that closes when the Subsystem stops when Display a separate console window for each real-time process is selected.

NOTE: All real-time processes must be stopped before the Subsystem can be stopped.

NOTE: Stopping the Subsystem closes all open console windows, even when Close console windows automatically is not selected.

Set the buffer size (lines)

Determines the number of lines (the characters between two newline characters) of text that are visible in the console window.

The default is 1000 lines.

Enter a new value in the text field.

Start console minimized

When checked, the output console is minimized. When not checked (default), the output console appears onscreen.

Select or clear the check box depending on the desired behavior.

Advanced

The advanced setting allows you to configure the console connection.

Setting Description Action

Set the ideal port number

Specifies the port number on which RTX64 listens for real-time application console connections.

The default port number is 37371.

NOTE: If the ideal port number cannot be obtained during a session, RTX64 will look for an available port and set this value to the new port number.

Enter a new value in the text field.

The range is 1 to 65534.

Configuring Real-Time Process Output Logging

Select Log real-time process output to turn on real-time application output logging. This is a global setting that applies to all console windows. When selected, you can set the log file location and specify a maximum log folder size.

NOTE: The options to configure real-time application output logging are grayed-out when this setting is not selected.

Setting Description Action

Set the log file location

Determines the folder location where real-time process output logs are saved.

Enter a pathname to a folder in the text box or click Browse and search for a location.

Log file names will appear in one of two formats, based on how Configure how real-time process output should be displayed (see above) is configured:

  • When Display output for all real-time processes in a single console window is enabled:

ConsoleLog-YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS.txt, where YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS is the time when the log file was created.

  • When Display a separate console window for each real-time process is enabled:

<Process Name>-YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS-PID.txt, where YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS is the time when the log file was created and PID is the process ID of the real-time process that generated the console output in the log file.

Set the maximum log file size

Determines the maximum size of the folder, in megabytes, of the output log file. Logging stops when the maximum log folder size is reached, and it resumes when the size drops to 80% of the maximum size.

The default is 200 MB.

Enter a new value in the text box. The range is 1 to 232 – 1 MB
